About

Billye J. Jones, LCSW, is a therapist, instructor, trainer, and nonprofit leader. Billye’s primary focus has been working with children, adults, and families impacted by trauma. Her passion has been child sexual abuse prevention and treatment. She has done extensive work with sexually abused children and adults.

Even though Billye is a social worker, she has served clients of abuse and trauma in many different capacities over the years. Billye incorporates into all of her work her knowledge and experience in the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse and in developing trauma-informed programs. She has educated therapists, students, parents, teachers, child welfare staff, attorneys, social workers, and many others about child sexual abuse. In her mission to educate and empower people to prevent and address child sexual abuse, Billye has participated in panel discussions, been interviewed in newspapers, on radio, television, and appeared in a documentary.

Billye started out working in outpatient mental health. Her primary roles were in teen pregnancy prevention and working with children and adolescents who had experienced extensive early trauma. She also worked with families, groups, and couples. Her work in mental health clinics set Billye on a path to focusing on child sexual abuse prevention and treatment—child sexual abuse impacted many of the clients she worked with, and the long-term effects were evident.

Over the years, Billye has served in leadership positions at nonprofits in New York City, including as the director of a child sexual abuse program at an organization in the Bronx, NY. Also in the Bronx, she served as an agency representative/facilitator for a citywide sexual violence primary prevention program. At this same organization, she worked as part of a national cohort to prevent child sexual abuse. Billye has educated therapists, students, parents, teachers, child welfare staff, attorneys, social workers, and many others on topics relating to child sexual abuse.

The topics she covers include:

  • Identifying signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse

  • Increasing protective factors

  • Using the arts to break the silence around abuse

  • Handling disclosure

  • Safeguarding a home after child sexual abuse has occurred

  • Educating on the long-term impact of childhood sexual abuse

Having experience working as a therapist, supervisor, nonprofit leader, trainer, teacher, and advocate has afforded Billye a broad perspective and insight into how to prevent child sexual abuse and how to work with survivors to begin their healing journey.

Billye received her master of Social Work degree from New York University (NYU). In addition, she holds a post-master’s certificate in Clinical Practice from NYU; an advanced certificate for the management of children, families, and the elderly from New York Medical College/Fordham University; and a post-master’s certificate in Trauma Studies from the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy. She is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) on the local, state, and national levels.
